" For days we were driving in the Libyan desert looking for Beduines. In the most beautiful Oasis, which looked like an Oasis in a children book with palm trees, beautiful sand dunes and a little lake, we found Mabruko who was playing with her hens and ducks....When we arrived there, her father proudly introduced us to whole family, 3 wives and 30 children. We asked him if I could take a picture of Mabruko and he responded with great excitement. They washed her hair quickly and put her on this little jacket. It was a beautiful moment and definitely also something special for the family and village having her stand in front of my wooden 4x5 camera... You can see the intensity and expectations in her beautiful eyes. I took several pictures of her and when I was back home developing my films I could not believe how beautiful and intense she was.
A year later we went back in order to give her the picture but we could not find her village anymore. For days we were driving through restricted area without success."
J. C. Schlegel

__"Mabruko vit dans une petite oasis au coeur du désert Lybien. Lorsque nous sommes arrivés là-bas, son père nous a fièrement introduit à sa famille composée de ses trois épouses et trente enfants."Jan C. Schlegel
