Astrid Verhoef’s El Teide places us in a stark, volcanic landscape—where mystery, symbolism, and solitude converge.

At the center stands the artist, her face hidden, holding a large egg close to her chest in a protective attitude. The egg, an ancient symbol of life and rebirth, feels both fragile and weighty in the barren surroundings, emphasizing the contrast between vulnerability and strength, stillness and transformation. Set against the raw, textured terrain of the volcano El Teide, with its lone pine and dark volcanic ground, the scene invites us to consider what we carry, what we protect, and what we are on the verge of becoming.
