ROUGH GREEN SNAKES

Scientific name: Opheodrys aestivus

Organization: Amey Zoo, Hertfordshire, UK

Keeper: Mark Amey

This image may fill many people with revulsion and horror, but there is no need to be afraid of these non-venomous snakes. Ophidiophobia is an abnormal fear of snakes and is common worldwide, but it is important to differentiate between people who suffer from this and those who have simply learned to fear snakes. Rough Green Snakes are native to the southeastern states of the United Snakes and are well camouflaged in their meadow, woodland, and arboreal habitat. During reproduction, females of this species have been known to share egg-laying sites -up to 75 eggs have been found in one such site- meaning the young of several mothers may emerge together.

OPHEODRYS AESTIVUS

Nom latin: Panthera tigris

Organisation: Amey Zoo, Hertfordshire, UK

Gardien: Mark Amey
