FRANÇAIS CI-APRES

Perched between earth and sky, the leopard in Horizon seems suspended in a moment of quiet vigilance. Its body, draped along the branching trunk, merges with the tree as if it were part of the landscape itself—an ancient presence watching over the fading light. The vast Tanzanian horizon stretches behind it, soft and infinite, reinforcing a sense of solitude and timelessness.

Joachim Schmeisser’s work often transforms wildlife into intimate, almost spiritual portraits, inviting us to see animals not as distant subjects but as individuals with presence and dignity . Here, the subdued tones and delicate balance between shadow and light evoke both beauty and fragility. The leopard is powerful, yet alone—its stillness hinting at a world where such encounters may become increasingly rare.

As part of The Last of Their Kind, the photograph resonates beyond its immediate scene. It becomes both homage and warning: a quiet meditation on coexistence, and a reminder that the horizon we share with these creatures may be narrowing.
