    FRANÇAIS CI-DESSOUS

An apport — from the French "apporter," to bring — is a physical object said to have been materialized by spirits. The canary in this photo was reportedly one such apport. Mediums Tom Morris and Kevin Lawrenson told me that one fall morning, the bird simply flew through their open door and landed on Tom's head. They believe it was a gift from their Native American spirit guide, Yellow Feather.

Live apports have a long history in Spiritualism. In 1890, the English medium Madame d'Esperance famously produced a seven-foot golden lily during a séance — eleven perfect blossoms that lasted a week before reportedly dematerializing. In the 1930s, the Hungarian medium Lajos Pap apported live animals into his séance room. The objects were eventually housed in a museum in Hungary, where they remained on display until the collection was destroyed by bombing during World War II.
