Echo Fine Arts is pleased to present a new edition of La Famille, a pop-up solo exhibition by French photographer Alain Laboile, in partnership with Un Moment BARNES – Come Prima in Mougins. This intimate and evolving body of work will be on view from October 17, 2025 to January 3, 2026, with an opening reception in the presence of the artist on Friday, October 17th, from 6pm to 8pm.
A self-taught photographer, Alain Laboile uses his Leica Q + 28mm to document the everyday life of his large family, capturing with rare sensitivity the joy, chaos, and poetry of childhood. Rendered in black and white, his photographs transcend the personal, becoming a universal and timeless testament, an emotional and visual legacy for his children and generations to come.
Through his six children, Laboile opens a window into a world of freedom, intimacy, and connection with nature, a refuge where time slows and the seasons shape the rhythm of life. While his visual language may echo photographers like Sally Mann, Laboile charts his own course: he is not a documentarian or theorist, but a creator of a unique family cosmogony.
Far from conventional norms, his children grow up immersed in the elements, exploring both the wilderness around them and their own inner landscapes. More than a chronicle of childhood, La Famille is a visual poem, where the rustle of leaves, splashes of water, and whispers of curiosity fuse into a powerful narrative. Laboile’s photographs radiate an instinctive immediacy and quiet power, offering a soothing antidote to contemporary anxieties.
Though his photographic journey began relatively late, Alain Laboile has firmly established himself in the French and international photography scene. He received the 2019 Global Peace Photo Award for his photo book La Dispute (published by Les Arènes) and was awarded the HiP Prize for Best Youth Photography Book that same year. In 2014, the French Museum of Photography added 32 of his prints to its permanent collection, further cementing his place as a key figure in contemporary French photography.
This presentation includes newly released images alongside iconic works, providing both long-time admirers and new audiences the opportunity to rediscover the timeless world of La Famille.
