The Beluga Whale, like all marine animals living in an increasingly plastic permeated ocean, is under threat. Exacerbating oceanic debris, climate change, noise pollution and habitat-invasive coastal development all contribute to the worsening conditions these animals have been forced to live in.

Otherwise known as the Canaries of the Sea, Belugas are incredibly social and vocal animals that are endemic to Arctic and Subarctic waters and rely extensively on the sea ice that is under attack by a rapidly warming earth. Areas in the Arctic that were once safe havens for the Beluga, untouched by humans, are now becoming more easily accessible due to diminishing ice cover and softened weather conditions. These newly navigable pathways allow for the number of ships and vessels used for commercial fishing, gas and oil extraction and tourism to inflate dramatically.
