FRANÇAIS CI-APRÈS

The photograph shows Kai Muegge in a séance environment, presenting ectoplasm as it appears to emerge from his body under deep trance and controlled darkness. The substance is depicted as pale, fluid, and unstable—neither fully material nor immaterial—forming momentarily before shifting shape within the confined space of the cabinet.

For Kai, ectoplasm is not simply a relic of early Spiritualism, but a central and active component of physical mediumship. In his practice, it functions less as proof of spirit presence than as a responsive medium shaped by the interaction between the medium and the sitters. The darkness of the séance room is essential, allowing what he describes as a destabilization of perception in which these phenomena can manifest.

This image reflects his broader approach, which challenges conventional Spiritualist expectations of verification and control. Instead, ectoplasm is treated as a process—something that appears, behaves, and withdraws within a shared experiential field. Its significance lies not only in what it might represent, but in how it alters perception, attention, and belief in the moment of its appearance.
