The Photography Show by AIPAD: New York City, US

22 - 26 April 2026
Overview

Join us booth D16 at The Photography Show where we present works by Frédéric David, Astrid Verhoef, and Jan Schlegel, three artists whose distinct practices explore transformation, perception, and the poetic potential of photography.

After twenty-six years working alongside couturier Karl Lagerfeld, Frédéric David has developed a singular figurative practice in which each photograph is altered through a delicate transfer process that partially dissolves and veils the original image. The fragmented photograph is then scanned and printed on fine art paper, before receiving a final hand-applied varnish that lends the surface a painterly texture reminiscent of Renaissance canvases, transforming the portrait into both vestige and palimpsest.

Astrid Verhoef presents a selection of introspective self-portraits that explore identity and perception. Through a carefully constructed technical and conceptual approach to self-representation, her images create quiet, contemplative spaces where the boundaries between body, nature, and inner experience subtly dissolve.

Jan C. Schlegel will present new works from his series Of Aliens, Mermaids & Medusas, alongside recent botanical photographs rendered as platinum and carbon prints—the latter created in collaboration with master printer Michael Strickland. Together, these works highlight his command of historic photographic processes while expressing a poetic vision that reflects on both the beauty and fragility of nature.
