LITURGY OF LIGHT: Jan C Schlegel

Overview

Echo Fine Arts is thrilled to host for the first time in France a solo exhibition by German artist and master printer Jan C Schlegel entitled "Liturgy of Light". From September 20th until November 2nd, 2024, this retrospective exhibition will feature over thirty photographs ranging from Polaroids 809 to platinum iridium via salt print, from the late 2000s until now.

From portraits of nomadic tribes people to photomicrography of plancton, Schlegel's creative work is diverse and reflects the author's deep interest and love for life on our planet in all its forms, in its touching fragility and vast diversity. Schlegel made a huge contribution not only to fine art photography but also to the development of printing techniques: he carefully preserves the traditions of black-and-white photography (platinotype, ambrotype, salt and silver-gelatin prints) while boldly creating new ones. Characterized by rich tones and contrasts, his photographs capture the light in a unique way, instantly recognizable. They reveal the special beauty of an almost holy link that connects every living creature on Earth.
