After Stanley Hall died, Charles Castle invited Tom Morris and Kevin Lawrenson to share the home they had lived in together. Kevin recalls it taking years to restore: "It looked like there'd been a party in the 1970s and nobody cleaned it up," with 30 acres overrun by Charles's menagerie of ponies, parrots, peacocks, and more.

In 1999, just as the house was coming together, it burned to the ground. Tom and Kevin believe Stanley's spirit started the fire — appearing one night, declaring "This is my room!," pushing Tom down the stairs, and triggering a chain reaction that engulfed the house. They escaped with the animals but lost nearly everything: letters from Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, and Vivien Leigh, works by Man Ray and Cecil Beaton, decades of photographs. The property was bulldozed.

Through a local Spiritualist medium, Stanley later admitted to the arson, apologized, and said it was now safe to return. Charles rebuilt, but the space never felt right. In 2003, the three friends bought Montcabirol and created their center for physical mediumship.

After years of hosting and caring for Charles until his death, Tom and Kevin grew exhausted and decided to move on. Selling took five years — they say the house didn't want them to leave: "Every time you have a séance, the energy goes into the building."

They have since relocated to a property Kevin says he saw in a vision years ago, rooted in the Cathar region. As for what's next: "There will be no flying trumpets. There will be more philosophy. The spirits are very excited. The house is very excited!"

Après des années à accueillir des groupes et à prendre soin de Charles jusqu'à sa mort, Tom et Kevin s'épuisèrent et décidèrent de partir. La vente prit cinq ans — ils disent que la maison ne voulait pas les laisser partir : « À chaque séance, l'énergie pénètre dans le bâtiment. »

Ils se sont depuis installés dans une propriété que Kevin dit avoir vue en vision il y a des années, ancrée dans la région cathare. Quant à la suite : « Il n'y aura pas de trompettes volantes. Il y aura plus de philosophie. Les esprits sont très enthousiastes. La maison est très enthousiaste ! »
