All photographs are black and white silver shot with a 4 x 5 field camera (Ebony SV45 Ti) on traditional film (Kodak Tmax 400). Negatives are developed in Kodak D76 Developer 1+1 dilution. There is no digital enhancement and everything is done "in-camera". Pictures are enlarged on fibre base photographic paper (Efke Varicon Classic FB) and selectively toned with the artist's personal mixture which gives the photographs an added strength and depth. This post-production process can takes up to 8 hours and turns out differently with each print, hence making each of them unique.
“Tribes of Our Generation” is a series featuring alternative YouTube or IG influencers. While strangers to everyone who is not a part of that specific subculture, they act as role models to their community.
As an echo to his portraits of members from African tribes, Schlegel respectfully highlights their individuality. Beyond their external appearance, tattoos, hairstyles and piercings, it is their souls that transpires through their gaze. To quote Lars Elton: “It’s all about their eyes”.
