Psyché: JeeYoung Lee

Celebrating ten years since her last exhibition in France, acclaimed artist JeeYoung Lee returns with exclusive works from her captivating series Stage of Mind and Into the Mist gathered in a single exhibition: Psyché. From March 7th to May 4th, immerse yourself in the magic of her imagined landscapes, spread across three floors including an onsite installation.

In Stage of Mind, Lee delves deep into the complexities of human psychology and the subconscious, transforming her studio into a vivid, emotional landscape. Over the course of weeks or months, she constructs these intricate worlds within her 4 x 6 m space. Each piece reflects Lee’s personal quest for identity, desires, and mindset, portrayed through self-portraits that focus more on her internal conflicts than her appearance. Her installations act as a cathartic exploration, allowing her to confront social repression and transform frustration into symbols of hope. Stage of Mind invites viewers to confront their own fears, embrace their dreams, and recognize the shared experiences that unite us all.

In contrast, Into the Mist takes a radically different approach. Lee strips down her studio to immerse herself in a fleeting, almost abstract universe. By eliminating props and shapes, she frees her consciousness, relying entirely on kinetic and emotional impulses. A master of color, Lee instinctively expresses her inner world through a single pastel hue and its infinite spectrum of nuances. The barely perceptible outline of her body paradoxically channels her soul, giving form to emotions that feel both visible and tangible. Each photograph in this series is spiritual and almost mystical, reawakening kinesthetic memories that Lee seeks to share with her audience.
